My Favorite Quilt

Those who sleep under a quilt, sleep under a blanket of love. ~Author Unknown

During these cold winter months, Dave and I have developed a love for blankets. (With an added bonus of keeping the electric bill reasonable!) As I was looking at this picture of Dave all bundled up, I realized that the picture also features one of my favorite quilts.

The quilt was made by my mom and my aunt when I was young...probably late elementary school or middle school. It's a "t-shirt quilt" that's made up of my favorite t-shirts that I couldn't bear to part with. Years later, it's kind of funny to see which shirts made the cut...and even funnier to see that there are not one, but two(!), Pittsburgh shirts on the quilt. If I had known then what I know now...

To make up the quilt, the t-shirts were sewn onto a denim background, and the quilt has a flowered baking. This is not the most beautiful quilt that I own, but it's definitely the most versatile. And that's why I love it. I have a lovely green quilt that was made by some Bolivian ladies, but I'm almost afraid to use it for fear of spills and dog hair. Not so with my t-shirt quilt. It's great for EVERYTHING -- picnics, outdoor concerts, snuggling with the dog, whatever. Pop that sucker into the washer, and you are good to go.

That's my kind of quilt.

What a great idea. I have all these momentus tee shirts from high school but they are just packed away. Now if I could just find someone who would quilt it for me :)
